Neuf sans étiquette
Here’s an Excellent, No actually better than that, OUTSTANDING! - True Vintage Late 1940s to very early 1950s MARATHON - Genuine Panama Straw Fedora Hat! We did NOT want to stress the leather sweatband with that metal hat sizer! Though the actual leather sweatband is still in PERFECT Condition! We have experienced that squeezing it to completely conform to the leather sweatband (since this sweatband remain soft and pliable) it can make scratches and really stress the sewn joint. This is a semi-rigid hat and we do NOT want to make ANY MISTAKES! So rather than squeezing that metal hat stretcher to get a perfect measurement we did it just so you can see how very close to a Perfect size 7 (at 22 inches or 56) it is! This is a fraction under a perfect size 7! It’s about 1/16 to less than a 1/8 of an inch, that’s about the closest we could measure it using a different method) of an inch smaller than a Perfect size 7! We believe that just wearing this hat enough will eventually stretch this to a perfect size 7. We hope that we have explained that well? If you do have any questions please write to us? We were told by one of Dad’s hat collectors to place a Quarter on the straw and take a picture so you can easily see the density of the weave. This is a very dense weave, see pictures. Once in a long time you run across an OUTSTANDING True Vintage Genuine Panama hat and this one appears near PRISTINE! Not a broken or cracked straw anywhere! Even the Leather sweatband appears pristine! If you look at the leather sweatband the Reed (and the whole leather sweatband) has absolutely NO wear at all to it! The Reed is the part of the leather sweatband that actually attaches to the hat. Awe pictures. As you would wear this Panama Hat and as look at the pictures you can imagine yourself at “Rick’s Place” in the great old classic movie, “CASABLANCA”. Just a thought from Dad. We both love the Turner Classic Movie Channel and watch all those old - great movies on that channel all the time! It appears to have been bought days ago but it’s actually about 80 plus years ago and appears unworn! If you look at the St That wide dipped brim is just beautiful! The Crown shaping appears PERFECT! The brim is at about 98%. There is a bit of shaping that could be done to the left side as you look at the front of the hat. It’s really very very minor and really isn’t seen! So please look at all the pictures and that better tells you more about this OUTSTANDING Fedora than we could write After this collector saw the closeup pictures he compared this to the Monte Christo Panama hats, this compares to the wears of their very expensive high end Panama hats. These are still being sold by Monte Christo for over This is a WOW FIND! My grandson finally heard back from them after sending them pictures of the hat and one with the quarter on it to see the weave density. They said this does compare to their Finest Panama hats! That weave density is the best you can buy! So see pictures and tell us what you think? We haven’t seen any older true vintage ones like this listed anywhere! Well NOT in this OUTSTANDING condition! There are NO broken or cracks straws! See pictures. This collector says to take a closeup of the point on the pinched crown because that the area that handled most and the straw there remains pristine as it down on the whole fedora! You can see that it’s PRISTINE still! So back in the 1940 - 1950s there were many folks who took their vacations to Cuba. Back then it was just a thing folks did. You would find most of the men wearing this type of hat! The cool breeze would be able to flow through this type of hat and it would keep you relatively cool. Most folks did not wear their felt hats! It was just too hot. Since living down here is South Florida it was very easy to take a short cruise on luxury liners to Cuba to vacation. Music, Dancing and Beaches were all the rage back then and this was just the thing to do back then! There were many Night Clubs and all sorts of American Bands would go there and entertain, you’d even see Desi Arnez (I Love Lucy Fame) playing if you were lucky! Mom and Dad (they did see them along with many other popular band of that time period, Big Band types) would leave the kids with Aunts and Uncle or Grandparents and groups of family and friends would take this cruise. It is so MUCH different these days! Very very different! The original Marathon hat box is in terrible condition! The bottom is broken and all taped up. So Dad has replaced that hat box with the Bourse Cellini sturdy hat box, it’s still in great condition with its original hat holding insert set, we added pictures at the end. The hat fits inside perfectly! The hat box will be sold with this hat! No “NO HAT BOX OPTION” in this sale! So shipping even outside the Continental USA includes the Hat Box It’s the only way that we can insure the hat arrives in the same condition as pictured! This will be carefully boxed into a larger shipping box. NOTE: shipping outside the continental USA will INCLUDE the hat box! The picture of the whole underside is the best representation of the actual color - it’s that aged yellowish straw color that comes from true aging. The straw itself is NOT fragile and delicate and can be handled without it breaking. Of course if you roughly handle it and do NOT handle it correctly it will break, just like any Genuine Panama straw hat would! So you do NOT grab it by the pinched crown squeezing it! Also when taken off its best to place it crown down and not lay it on its brim. It is easy to identify this to the 1940s, maybe the very early 1950s. Dad’s hat collector just helped verify the dating. With that “Button” hat liner and leather sweatband lettering. This is what is printed on the leather sweatband. “ GENUINE PANAMA - WOVEN BY HAND IN SOUTH AMERICA” If you have any questions please write us. The was no hat size tag but this measures to a minus a size -7, by a fraction of an inch! You can see the picture with that metal hat sizer closely measuring the actual hat size, WITHOUT over squeezing it to stress the leather sweatband! We actually measure each hat 3 times to verify the size, whether tagged or not. Details Aged natural yellowish Size (-) 7 or (-) 22 inches or 55.9 Length 12.9 inches Width 11.5 inches, widest part, not flattened out Height 4.3 inches, at the tallest point Wide Brim width 2.55 inches Very Fancy Matching Multi-Colored Grosgrain Ribbon 1.5 inches, this is secured to the hat! If you have any question please write. Take a look at dads other great vintage hat he has listed, we try and list couple each week. If you have any additional information or corrections, please write us. This is just a really great hat! We Carefully packaged and ships though Fedex or USPS Priority mail, whichever is fastest. Local pickup is always free. Ship with Fedex or USPS priority mail, whichever arrives quickest. Both costs a couple dollars more but they are very reliable and they do not crush or damage boxes, also much faster shipping.. We do not make an profit on shipping! Please see our excellent Ratings but please read our very excellent feedback. Dad has collected hats for a lifetime and there are 100s of them, on shelves, stacked in closets and spare bedrooms. We are slowly listing these special hats weekly. We stand behind the garentee and have NEVER had and issue with returns. We ask you to verify your hat size before you buy and we supply the maximum amount of pictures but if you need anything please write and ask. No Smoking - No Pets Thank You NOTE: when we ship Dad’s hats out we use strong shipping boxes and each hat we ship is FULLY INSURED and we are no longer going to handle broken box insurance claims. We discovered that one buyer crushed their shipping box and asked for a hefty partial refund. The shipper sent us a picture of the box sitting at the front door and it was NOT CRUSHED? We also discovered that because we were NOT in possession of the box it was impossible for us to file the claim. So now and in the future all claims will be handled by the buyer of the hat or item we ship. Again we ALWAYS carefully pack each hat so it will not be crushed in a good strong shipping box. There are always some Bad Apples around who make everyone’s life impossible! It not fair to the rest of the GOOD FOLKS but it’s a fact of life these days! If you have any questions please write to us. Thank you for your understanding.
