Although made in the 1970s as a luxury garment, this black velvet leisure or lounging ensemble from Valentino presages the jogging/lounging apparel craze prevalent in today's fashion. Both the top and the pants are finished with ribbed knit cuffs, like today's modern "joggers." The top has two buttons on each side of a bateau neckline. The pants have a regular waistband (if only Valentino had also foreseen elastic waistbands), a fly front zipper, on seam pockets, and belt loops. The velvet fabric is 100% rayon (rayon makes lovely velvet), and the linings are viscose. Labeled vintage size 6, but based on the 24" waist size of the pants, the modern size is a 0-2, or XS. Please refer to the measurements for the best guidance regarding actual size and compare with similar garments that fit you.* NOTE: A good tailor could increase the waist size by at least two inches (maybe up to three) by releasing what feel like six uncut waist darts and a back seam. This type of alteration would require splicing the waistband, but the splice would not be seen, because the top covers the waistband. A rare vintage outfit like this one in essentially perfect condition, and from one of the greatest designers of the century, would be worth a minor investment in alterations, if the waist size is your only deterrent. TOP MEASUREMENTS - Shoulder width is 16" - Underarm chest measurement is 38" - Bottom knit band is 28" unstretched. - Length is 26" down center back. PANT MEASUREMENTS - Waist is 24" - Hips are 36" - Rise is 12" excluding waistband. - Inseam is 29" including knit cuff.
