“I will write peace on your wings and you will fly all over the world.” --Sadako Sasaki. About: Sadako Sasaki (January 7, 1943 - October 25, 1955; Age 12) was a Japanese girl who was 2-years old when the atomic bomb was dropped on August 6, 1945, near her home by Misasa Bridge in Hiroshima, Japan. Sadako is remembered through the story of folding a thousand origami cranes (senbazuru) before her death, and is to this day, a symbol of innocent victims of war. Her inspirational story is known all across the world. Supporting Details: The pieces in this 100% hand-crafted jewelry collection line were inspired by Sadako's story. This project was initiated, by request, from the Pacific Historic Parks, Pearl Harbor, HI to commemorate International Peace Day 2013, and for the unveiling of a permanent Sadako Sasaki Crane exhibit at the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center featuring 1 of 3 remaining, original hand-folded origami cranes made by Sadako that was gifted by her brother. Direct approval permission has been granted by Sadako's brother, Mr. Masahiro Sasaki, a peace activist, to produce this exclusive collection for equally symbolizing and promoting peace awareness to further Sadako's infinite legacy and her wishes for healthy children and peace around the world. On September 28, 2013, as the exhibit's opening ceremony got underway, a rainbow over Pearl Harbor provided the backdrop. Attendees included the Sasaki family, Pearl Harbor Survivors, the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii, and many others. Proceeds Donation: The design's manufacturer will be donating a percentage of their annual gross proceeds on all sales from the Sadako Sasaki Peace Crane™ Collection Line© to Sadako Legacy, a nonprofit organization established in 2009.
